Things to Do in the Area around Fattoria Del Colle
Everyone does retreating a little differently, and that’s okay. There is no right or wrong way to be on retreat. I always recommend taking the time to sink in, ground and become present on retreat, especially after an international flight, but I also know that there are some folks who connect best to their environment through movement and activity.
Considering that there are as many various kinds of retreaters as there are people in the world, I want to offer this guide for all those who retreat with us. It’s filled with ideas for what you can do in the area while you’re on retreat at the beautiful Fattoria del Colle.
If you are already booked on to a retreat with Radiant Jane Retreats, I hope this will help you better plan your time. And if you are dreaming of coming on a retreat soon, maybe this guide will give you an idea of what it will be like to wake up each day in dreamy Tuscany.
Planned Activities at Fattoria
Within your retreat schedule, you will attend workshops, dine on three meals a day and use the outdoor pool (open from mid-May to mid-October).
You’ll also have the opportunity to attend a wine tour one afternoon and a pasta making class. On the wine tour, of course you will taste the famed Fattoria wines, but you will also learn the history of this incredible vineyard and of its founder, Donatella.
The spa at the vineyard is available to book for some deep self-care. The steam room and sauna will be available at designated times through the week and you can book treatments for your own personal timein the spa.
Beyond Fattoria Del Colle
There is a delightful little trail that runs from Fattoria del Colle to the medieval village of Trequanda. The trail is less than a mile long and you can easily walk it in half an hour. But be prepared to take much longer because you’ll want to tarry along the way. You can find more details and walking instructions here.
Also in Trequanda, there is a cafe on the square, a wonderful vegan restaurant, a great pizzeria and even a Michelin star restaurant. Even though we have all our meals provided at Fattoria, you’re welcome to take a break from the group and head off to Trequanda for a meal on your own if that is something you would enjoy.
There are bikes available for use at Fattoria which is a great way to get a little further afield. You might even ride all the way into Sinalunga which is about eight miles from the vineyard.
If you are the kind of person who gets a little bit stir crazy being in one spot for a week, you might want to consider renting a car and driving yourself to Fattoria. There are several advantages to this option, not the least of which is being able to fly in and out whenever you like instead of arranging your travel around the set airport pickup and drop off times. There are a lot of beautiful towns and vineyards in the area surrounding Fattoria. We usually visit Pienza as a group, but Orvieto, Siena, San Gimignano and Montipulciano are stunning places to visit that you can easily reach by car from Fattoria. Even if you don’t find that you have the time during the retreat, you might want to plan to visit one or more of these towns before or after the retreat, which is much easier to do by car.
I often say that it’s important to know thyself when you go on a retreat. Being in one place and with a group of people for a week can stretch you, usually in the best way. I encourage you to lean into it, sit with what comes up and use embodiment practices to move new energies through your body. That being said, if you expect that you’re going to need a break from the group dynamics, you might really appreciate being able to head off for an afternoon or for a day, either on foot, on a bike or in your own car. Fattoria will always be there to welcome you back with open arms.
